Activities: Rural Village Information Management
THRIVE is helping
in establishment of Solar Powered Geo-Spatial Rural Information
Touch-Screen Kiosks in several villages of Kadapa and Nellore
districts in Andhra Pradesh as part of a Department of Science
Technology Promoted, AP Council Of Science & Technology Project.
These Kiosks provide Basic Village Information to people from
the villages, planning and administrative officers, students,
and visitors, using localized interfaces in Telugu Language in
the form of thematic maps and data, and will be useful for
Planning, Disaster Mitigation, Education, Agriculture, Water
resource management, etc.
Apart from these THRIVE has provided several CDs, and
Presentations which will be useful for Women, and children, and
will cover areas such as nutrition, health, hygiene and a range
of other subjects.
Each of these Kiosks will be accompanied with a Weather
Monitoring Station which will show live weather reports and
about 19 other weather parameters.
THRIVE is helping in powering these kiosks using solar which
will be setup in remote and interior villages which are far away
from the power-grid in most cases. THRIVE will also help in
monitoring the project and maintenance of the systems till the
end-users in the village are capable of handling them on their
own.
For continuity and trouble free service, THRIVE has identified
Village Volunteers from each of the villages where the kiosks
are set up. The Village Volunteers who have received special
training from THRIVE will assist in operating the kiosk, and
perform updates and general maintenance.
