THRIVE's renewable energy center and Park

  1. THRIVE developed over the last 7 years state of art renewable center in 18 acre campus 100 Km away from Hyderabad.

  2. THRIVE'S campus looks like a small village with simple village structures, facilities, roads, small fields, playground and tons of vegetation both wild and groomed.

  3. THRIVE campus has nearly 300 neem trees, 10 large tamarind trees, 20 Mango, 20 Goa, 20 pomegranate, 100s of custard apple, 10 lime, 20 sweet lime plantation.

  4. The products and ideas are thoroughly tested in THRIVE campus before they are released to the community at large.

  5. THRIVE campus houses simple structures and many inmates live their village life in the campus.

  6. THRIVE campus inmates include cows, dogs (Doberman), several cats, ducks, peacocks and hundreds of crows, pigeons to make it live.

  7. If a product/concept survives the rough use and mishandling of inmates or their negligence, it can survive anywhere in the world as the villages exibit similar behavior.

  8. Except for high power appliances like welding - large lathe machine running, rest of the activities/machines are run on solar/wind or biomass. (we have tried to procure the DC welding machine but felt cost is high 2000 $ plus)

  9. There are around 30 street lights now that are run using LED based lighting systems.

Renewable infrastructure

solar - for the houses/labs/offices/workshops

  • every house/structure in the campus is provided with a 70 watt solar panel.

  • because of the vegetation, the panels are mounted in extended poles.

  • all the houses/labs/offices/residences/halls are provided with 5 watt strip LEDs and some 2 watt hanging cluster LEDs

  • every room is provided a 13 watt solar DC fan, except the guest room that is provided 18 watt side wall mounted DC fan.

  • TV HALL is provided with zantrex 300 watt INVERTER so the DTH and TV can run.

  • Office also has to 150 watt zantrex invertors for powering the laptops and small desktops.

Biogas

THRIVE campus has a centralized kitchen to cook for 20 inmates. for long time we used wood stove and gas (for coffee/tea) and now we have erected a 4 cub-meter biogas plant.   The plant supplies enough gas for the cooking requirements. For experimental use, we use a small Chinese made gas generator (350 watt- that has been brought from our Afghanistan project). We also put a small gas mantle and use it just for occasional purpose and demonstration.

approximate cost  25000 Rs.

wind

THRIVE has long experimented with wind mill (originally intended as a water pump) with S TYPE SAIL and cylindrically looking structure. we really struggled to maintain our own hand made wind mill and now decided to use the commercially available small wind mills.

THRIVE campus has one 200 watt and 100 watt small windmill made in Chennai.

approximate cost  22000 Rs.

Wood Gasifier

30 kg wood gasifier is installed and used for demonstration purpose. Maize shanks are used for feed and two burners are available. This is very useful for hostels, community kitchens as agri waste can be used to cook in a much efficient way.

approximate cost  32000 Rs.

DC submersible water pump

We have procured a DC submersible water pump 70 watt solar (from Nemo solar USA) that can pump up to 10000 lts a day. this is quite useful for small hamlets which do not have any electricity. we now want to procure a higher wattage pump so that it is reliable and can be used for regular needs.

approximate cost  24000 Rs.

Solar water purifier

We have procured A CHINESE made reverse Osmosis water purifier that can purify 50 lts an hour and converted it to DC and supplied the DC battery with a 40 watt solar panel. The conversion is possible as the original water pumps work on 12 Volts DC. This model is very good for small tribal villages.

approximate cost  30000 Rs.

3 Kilo watt solar panel bank

We have installed a 3 kilo watt solar panel bank and utilize the power to run our computer center, some kitchen appliances and small hand tools. This method is good for rural bank branches, hospitals, schools and others.

approximate cost  200000 Rs.

Solar concentrator, box cooker and host of other small solar gadjets
